Back when the JoCo Cruise audience was small enough that we could exist as a group within a larger “normal” cruise, a Monarch of the Seas was chosen among the Sea Monkeys by random drawing. The monarch was awarded front row seats for themselves and a consort of their choice for every show and was frequently introduced with fanfare, but was also tasked with a number of monarchical tasks, such as judging the Fancy Pants Parade and declaring a superior taco shell.
When the event became large enough to require chartering an entire ship, having a single Monarch became impractical. In order to have a recognized personage at each main show, the tradition was altered and the positions renamed to Red Leader and Gold Leader. (Each Leader still receives front row Main Concert seats for themselves and a companion, a cool “crown,” and as much or as little fanfare and duties as they wish to undertake.)
If your number comes up in the drawing for a Leader, you will be called out by name and presented with a talisman that you can choose to wear to be recognized as such anywhere on board. You will, at times, be the center of attention.
We understand if you do not want to be in the lottery that may result in your being the Red Leader or Gold Leader during the cruise. You don’t have to tell us why. You can just fill out this handy form.
